A Technology Transfer Manager at Wits Commercial Enterprise, a company wholly owned by the University of Witwatersrand. His background is in material science, electronics, intellectual property management and financial management. He has been involved in research management, consultancy, intellectual property, entrepreneurship, and commercialisation for about a decade, where he has assisted academic and government institutions together with entrepreneurs to put their intellectual assets like intellectual property and expertise into good use. He has worked in technology transfer offices of the University of Cape Town and later joined the University of KwaZulu-Natal as a Consultancy Manager where he laid the groundwork and spearheaded the university’s bid for formation of the Aerotropolis Institute, a first of its kind on the continent. Before joining Wits Enterprise he was the Principal IP Officer at the National Research Foundation, where he was responsible for managing the Intellectual Property Sub-Office, which included introducing IP management mechanisms, managing and commercialising intellectual property from SA’s key research Institutes under the NRF including flagship projects like the Square Kilometre Array.
